We’re looking for a Lead UX Designer to shape the way we deliver our products to customers across our markets.

This is a new role and is part of a growing Product Team. You will work closely with this team and with marketing and commercial teams across the business to define and deliver compelling user journeys, improve customer experience and deliver innovative, exciting, engaging and usable products.

For context, the Digital Product Team is responsible for supporting multiple platforms across the following key areas:

  • Build, management and maintenance of new and existing, customer facing products
  • Advising on UX, customer journey, functionality, copy, branding, conversion, optimisation, compliance and where required, ecommerce solutions
  • Using data to understand how our products are used and drive forward improvements and features

Job description:


As our Lead UX Designer, reporting into Head of Product, you will champion user experience design across Ocean Media Group’s portfolio of digital products; these include both stand-alone commercial brands (such as confetti.co.uk, weddingstylecollective.co.uk, housingexpert.com and bridalbuyer.com), as well as marketing sites that support traditional print and event brands.

You will be the sole UX specialist in the business so we’re looking for somebody who can hit the ground running and make a big impact quickly.

We’re all about design thinking, collaboration and challenging the way things are done and you’ll be expected to do the same using UX best practices.


Job duties & responsibilities:

  • Owning the end to end design journey for all Ocean Media Group products
  • Work closely with Product, Development, Marketing and brand owners to create websites and apps that meet customer and organisational needs
  • Devise and run customer testing sessions (lab based, remote and guerilla)
  • Utilise a range of research techniques to understand our users and develop personas
  • Presenting ideas and designs to the wider business

You might already be in a Lead role and looking for a new challenge, or you might be ready to take the next step and really make your mark. Either way, you’ll be able to work independently and take the lead on whatever product you’re working on with your exceptional leadership and communication skills. People management experience is a bonus as we will be looking to grow the team around you.


Skills and experience:

  • Demonstrable previous experience of UX design across mobile, web and apps including wireframes, interactive prototypes and mock ups
  • Ability to apply strategic thinking to building engaging end to end experiences that balance user needs with the goals of the business
  • Have a design thinking approach that you know delivers results
  • Be able to rapid prototype using the best software for the job (Axure, Sketch, In Vision) and knowledge of tools to support collaboration (Zeplin, Slack)
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and analytical skills, with the ability to listen, present and gain buy-in for ideas and articulate your vision
  • A good understanding of Agile and a commitment to getting something out early to test
  • Ability to collaborate closely with co-located and remote team members from a range of disciplines
